Teaching at the Wichita Cancun Sister Cities Elementary School

Today when we entered the cuadrangle at the Wichita Cancun Sister Cities Elementary School, the children were waiting and watching for our arrival. Here is a picture of Allison Hagar with some of her children that were waiting at the classroom door.

Today they taught the same lesson the teacher had taught the day before only in English. This is a common thing the student/teachers are doing. It helps to support the classroom curriculum by teaching it again in another language. The lesson was on rights and obligations. Alli and Morgan taught: IT IS MY RIGHT TO PLAY WITH OTHERS. IT IS MY OBLIGATION TO BE KIND. Here a student shows her English vocabulary lists, while Morgan and Allison help individual students.

All of the student/teachers had a successful experience teaching today. Rachael Rood had a fun time teaching body parts and pulling it all together with the “head-shoulder-knees-&-toes” song.

Bethany Gray and Colleen Scott had a successful learning activity with specially-made menus in English. It involved the creative activity of making the menus and then roll playing a restaurant scene.
