Let the adventure begin! Not only is it the culmination of months of preparation for these outstanding students, including an orientation course in the Mayan culture, it has also now included 18 hours of unexpected confusion and delays, courtesy of UNITED AIRLINES. However, smiling faces and warm hugs of enthusiastic host families on arrival in Cancun made it clear the waiting will be worth it, as the adventure begins for real.
“EL PUENTE” (“The Bridge”) will feature classes in Spanish conversation and Maya history; playing with small children of the CRIT health facility; sharing life with local host families; and making excursions to fascinating sites around the region.
Ten students are forming the “Bridge” and if their good will, patience, and determination throughout the first day’s misadventures are any indication, they will be building a strong bridge indeed, drawing together two cultures in friendship and learning. Adelante!! (Here we go!)
