From Cancun to Havana

We were so proud of our “14” this morning. They were ready to go as requested at 10:30 A.M. so we could get to the airport with plenty of time to spare. The plane took off on time and we landed safely in Havana. Havana!


Passing through customs was an usual experience. It was certainly not a logical, linear experience but we did get through the different stations…some slower than others. We were met by Alexis Hernandez who was informative and established himself as our guide and go-to person during our stay in Havana.

We are staying at the Hotel Presidente with a nice view of the city.

Today is Casey Adam’s birthday. The pilot announced this on the airplane and we celebrated his birthday at a neat restaurant Paladar Porto Havana.  It is located just behind the hotel in a 16-floor building. It is on the 11th floor and looks out over Havana toward the Caribbean. The dishes was extraordinarily interesting: roasted lamb, fish, shrimp, chicken, and pork. Each dish supported by black beans and rice, plantain bananas, and tossed salad (with home grown lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers).  Happy birthday, Casey!

Tonight some of the group walked to get an evening view of the Caribbean from the breaker wall called the Malecon. It was a lovely evening and a wonderful way to end our first day in Havana, Cuba!
